On Okaloosa Island, just across the Destin bridge, the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park has been introducing beach crowds to bottlenose dolphins since 1955 — years before the phrase “marine park” existed. The heart of the place hasn’t changed in seventy years: an open-air dolphin pool with the Gulf of Mexico glittering just past the rail.

What you’ll see

Dolphin and sea lion presentations run several times a day, and between shows you can wander past harbor seals, otters, alligators, African penguins and the stingray bay, where the rays glide under your fingertips in a shallow touch pool. The whole park is compact and oceanfront — you watch dolphins leap with real waves breaking behind them.

Plan your visit

It’s about twenty minutes from the Sandtrap houses, and a half day is plenty. Book the up-close animal encounters — dolphin meets sell out first — online before you go, and shows run rain or shine. Pair the morning with an afternoon on Okaloosa Island’s quieter stretch of sand, then drive back over the bridge for dinner on the harbor.
