Destin sits on a narrow peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico and Choctawhatchee Bay, famous for water so clear and green that locals simply call this stretch the Emerald Coast. The sand is almost pure quartz — cool underfoot even in July — and the beach runs for miles in either direction.
