The Formula 1 United States Grand Prix takes place October 23–25, 2026 at Circuit of the Americas (COTA), and Austin fills up fast. Hotel rooms get expensive, rideshares get scarce, and the whole city turns into a motorsport festival with live music and late nights.

If you're travelling with friends or family, a private home can beat a hotel on price per person, space and comfort. Here's how to think about where to base yourself.

F1 Weekend Basics

  • Race weekend: October 23–25, 2026
  • Venue: Circuit of the Americas, 9201 Circuit of the Americas Blvd, Austin
  • Also happening: Austin City Limits Music Festival runs October 2–4 and October 9–11 in Zilker Park, and the Austin Film Festival runs October 29 – November 5. Late October is one of Austin's busiest stretches of the year.

Staying Downtown vs. Near the Track

COTA is on the southeast edge of Austin, roughly 15 miles from downtown (about 25–40 minutes by car, much longer right before and after sessions).

Staying near the track means less distance on race days, but fewer restaurants, bars and things to do outside the circuit.

Staying centrally means you're close to Austin's food and music, with a short ride out to COTA. Many fans choose central Austin and use rideshare, shuttle or a designated driver on race days.

Tips for F1 Weekend in Austin

  1. Book your transport plan early. Traffic to COTA is heavy; consider shuttles or leaving well before sessions.
  2. Split costs. A house for 8–12 people is often cheaper per person than several hotel rooms during race weekend.
  3. Plan non-race time. Rainey Street, Lady Bird Lake and South Congress are all close to downtown — good for Friday evening and Monday after the race.
  4. Check availability now. Late-October dates sell out; if our home is booked, join our list for next year's race weekend.
